About the Work
"There is only one way of saying what the work is and what we are doing. We are giving Nature her opportunity. This is a definition allowing for change and growth." - F.M. Alexander
Alexander Technique teaches us to move more naturally, the way our bodies are intended to move, with freedom and ease, allowing day-to-day life to become more enjoyable. The principles can be applied to all aspects of your life and everything you do, including sitting, walking, working at a computer, and playing an instrument or a sport.
Alexander Technique sessions combine hands-on bodywork with mindfulness and movement education. You will learn to recognize undesired habits and make a conscious choice toward change as your body lets go of tension and holding patterns.
Alexander technique is sometimes described as movement re-education as it helps your body return to its innate state of wholeness, integration, and well-being.
What to Expect in a Session
Each session is different as it is tailored to the individual and what they bring to the session. Most sessions include hands-on tablework in which the teacher guides the student to recognize and release holding patterns in their body and access a state of wholeness. Sessions may also include anatomy lessons with applications to movements and activities. Any activity can be brought to a session, from texting to holding a baby to running a marathon!
